May 8th proved to be a beautiful but busy day at Mt. Penn.
Just before 6a.m. the Ladder was dispatched to assist Amity (Co’s 49 & 6) with a reported structure fire at 551 Old Swede Rd. Units were held at station and then recalled when it was again found out that the venting from the stack was just was normal operating conditions at Precision Technologies.
Just before 10:30a.m. the ladder was dispatched to 114 Carriage Circle to assist Birdsboro (Co7) for a reported structure fire, vehicle fire close to the building. Arriving units from 7 had a well involved vehicle fire which they were able to quickly knock down before it spread. All units were able to quickly return to service.
About 11:30a.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched, along with several other companies, to assist Exeter (Co25) at the McDonalds at 2730 Perkiomen Ave. in St. Lawrence for a reported structure fire. Arriving units had smoke from the roof as well as a smoke condition inside. The fire around the deep fryer was quickly knocked down and extinguished but crews remained on scene for about 30 minutes in order to vent the smoke from inside. The store was closed until further notice so a thorough inspection and clean up could be completed.
A little bit after 5p.m. Mt. Penn and Lower Alsace (Co4) were dispatched to Antietam Academy at 2538 Perkiomen Ave. for a fire alarm. As crews arrived they were informed by the staff that a small child had pulled the alarm near the front door. This was reset and the alarm panel cleared.
As station training was getting underway shortly after 7p.m. the structure assignment was sent to 2431 Endlich Ave. in Mt. Penn for a possible structure fire, report of a grill on fire next to the garage. Arriving units were able to confirm that the fire was out although dinner and the grill were quite ruined. All companies were able to clear in less than 10 minutes.
