This past Sunday was started at the station with the crew stripping and cleaning out the old Rescue 1 in preparation for getting the new Rescue 1 in service. A great turn out made this job much easier and it was finished up by early afternoon.
Shortly after 3p.m. the Engine was dispatched to assist Lower Alsace (Co4) at 107 Old Spies Church Rd. for a brush fire. The crews quickly took care of leaves on fire on the property there and were able to return within an hour.
Just before 10p.m. the Engine was sent to 358 Antietam Rd. to assist Alsace Manor (Co8) with a reported chimney fire. Arriving crews had a working chimney fire at this house which was set well back off the road which limited access for apparatus so much of the crew had to walk in. Fortunately the fire was contained to the chimney and firebox area and the crews got everything cleaned out and extinguished in short order.
While the crew was working in Alsace Twp., those remaining at station were called on as the RIT company to 5501 Perkiomen Ave. in Exeter to assist Company 25 with a reported structure fire in the laundry room of Berkshire Center. The first arriving crews found a dryer on fire with some extension to the structure. A line was quickly stretched to contain the fire and crews remained on scene for just over an hour to check for extension and vent the smoke.
