Mt. Penn Fire Company

3rd alarm RIT Assignment

On January 26th shortly before 6:30a.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched as an additional rapid intervention team(RIT) to 1643 Lancaster Avenue in Cumru Township at Supreme Cleaners for a structure fire.  First arriving units had to contend with heavy fire on the second floor apartment area as well as temperatures that were well below freezing.  Fortunately all occupants were able to escape safely.  Rescue 1 made the trip with 5 firefighters and took position at the front of the building.  The fire was darkened down within 30 minutes although extensive overhaul was required.  The additional alarm units began to be released shortly before 8a.m.  The Fire Marshall has determined the cause of the fire to be a lit candle that ignited other materials in the apartment.
