Assist to Cumru Township

StrucutreFire

On August 5 at approximately 1:40am Mt. Penn crews were dispatched on the 4th alarm to 12 Community Drive in Cumru Township for a structure fire in the Shillington Commons, a garden apartment complex.  Units dispatched initially had gotten on location with heavy  fire conditions in a 12 unit apartment building, 11 of which were occupied.  Fire had extended up the building from the ground floor and involved the roof and loft areas.  The crew from R1 was initially assigned to RIT functions but once the fire was placed under control by command they were stood down and sent to the manpower staging area.  Crews were used to perform secondary searches and secure undamaged apartments on the lower floors as well as assist with final extinguishment and overhaul in the 3rd floor apartments.  The crew returned to station just before 4a.m.
