Boyertown Assist on crash with Haz-Mat

On October 21st shortly before 3p.m. Mt. Penn was dispatched for the spill trailer to assist Boyertown(Co 95) for a vehicle crash with a large diesel fuel spill at 1101 Reading Ave. in Douglass Township. This is the same as the intersection of Route 562 & Douglass Drive.

A car and a tractor trailer collided which caused the truck to rupture its saddle tank and spill a large amount of diesel fuel from the intersection to a point about 50 yards east where the truck came to a stop in a field. The remaining fuel spilled out into the field. Crews applied oil dry to the roadway and placed booms around a storm drain to prevent any runoff from reaching a nearby creek. The truck driver was not injured and the occupants of the minivan were transported to the hospital for treatment. Mt. Penn crews were able to clear shortly before 5:30p.m. although Boyertown and an environmental clean-up crew remained on the scene for several more hours. This crash is under investigation by the Douglass Twp. Police.
