This past Tuesday we took a little road trip to an acquired structure to do some training on building searches. A smoke machine was used to produce a zero visibility environment. Crews first searched for the victim in the traditional way of following a wall and then sweeping the room with a tool. They averaged 10-14 minutes to complete their searches and rescue the occupant, Mr. Hose Dummy. On the second round they were provided with a thermal imaging camera which makes searching through heavy smoke much faster and easier. All crews were able to complete the search and remove the occupant in under 10 minutes. Mr. Hose Dummy made a quick recovery and is doing well.
