Mt. Penn Fire Company

Fire on the mountain

On May 19th shortly before 4:30p.m. Mt. Penn, along with several other companies, was dispatched to the area of the County radio towers at 619 Skyline Drive for a reported brush fire.  Numerous calls were received from the City of Reading & surrounding areas reporting smoke visible.  Arriving units found about 1 acre on fire just to the rear of the tower site and down a steep, rocky slope.  Crews went into service with lines from E1 & R1 until jeeps could work their way to the scene via trail.  The fire was quickly contained and thoroughly wet down with county units going available shortly after 5:30p.m.  A forestry crew and truck (Co 81) remained on the scene to perform final mop up.
