Mt. Penn Fire Company

No Sunday Fun Day

Sunday was no break for area fire companies including Mt. Penn. The day started rather early just before 2:30a.m. when the spill trailer was requested to Broadway Avenue in Exeter Township to assist with a fuel oil tank that was leaking behind a residence. Crews found oil around the tank and into the neighbors yard. Oil absorbent pads were applied and the owner was contacting a clean up company.

Then just after 7a.m. we were dispatched to assist Lower Alsace with a tree down on wires and across the road in the 1600 block of Friedensburg Rd. Crews assisted with traffic control and removing the tree. Fortunately the wires were not power lines, just phone and cable.

As the day progressed and temperatures and humidity climbed, Mt. Penn and Exeter were sent to assist Lower Alsace on a rescue of an injured hiker on the Schuylkill River side of Neversink Mountain below the Witches Hat pavillion. It took the combined crews more than an hour to locate and remove the hiker from where they fell and bring them back up the mountain to the ambulance so they could be taken to the hospital for evaluation of a leg injury.

Finally, just before 6:30p.m. Ladder 1 assisted Exeter on a possible structure fire on Claire Dr. Fortunately this turned out to be a small fire on the stove which was quickly handled. It had been called in by the owner who was away but noticed a haze in the home via a camera. Crews secured the stove and ventilated and were able to return shortly before 7p.m..
